sustainability is not just about resources, it is about human beings too

Our modern society places unattainable demands on people, textiles and our environment. The Hul le Kes Recovery Studio is here to move away from those demands and show alternatives to the current system.

the Recovery Studio
in Arnhem

At the Recovery Studio we offer a safe space for people to recover from the high demands of our society. Hul le Kes started this studio specially for people with mental or psychological issues such as depression, burn-outs, anxiety disorders, extreme loneliness, autism or any other mental issue that causes a disconnect with the stressful society. Or do you just need a break or time-out? Then this is also a place for you.

Recovering mental health

At the Hul le Kes Recovery Studio we offer you a place to recover at your own pace. To (re)discover your potential and talents, to gain knowledge or get out of your isolation. At Hul le Kes we believe that everyone is of value and deserves to contribute to society in their own way.

Focus and attention

Hul le Kes guides everyone in the studio on a personal level, both technically and mentally. The studio is a safe space for you to work in and nothing can go wrong. There are no deadlines and no sewing experience is needed. Would you prefer to work all alone for a day, without distraction? Also that is possible within the Recovery Studio.

The Recovery Studio is a place where you can work on yourself while repairing textiles. Working with your hands, with natural & tactile fabrics, combined with the fine motor skills and concentration that come with the work at the studio will have a therapeutic effect on your mental health. In the long term it can help you feel more comfortable and at ease with yourself.

Recovering textiles

Every person deserves a good place in our society, and so does every piece of textile. That is why we repair clothing and textiles within the Recovery Studio. We teach you how to repair clothes by hand. We use different repairing techniques like: Mending, Boro and Jogakbo. It is also possible to help with the natural dyeing processes at Hul le Kes. Here we dye fabrics with, for example, onion peels and chestnuts. Do you like to work in the garden? It is even possible to help us at the Hul le Kes garden every now and then.

Routes and hours

Our Recovery Studio is open every day of the week, from Monday to Friday. You can already start working at the studio for 3 hours a week; just how much you are able to handle. Our days are divided into a morning and afternoon program. Together with you we will find the best working routine, fitting your needs.

At the Recovery Studio we work together with Scalabor, Activerend Werk and Driestroom as our stakeholders for caretaking, learning trajectories, healthcare trajectories and reintegration trajectories. In some cases it is also possible to apply via a different organization, or your own employer; please contact us for more information. We offer short and long term trajectories.

Internships and volunteering

Next to the above mentioned short and long term trajectories it is possible to become a volunteer at the Recovery Studio, or to do your internship at our studio. Please contact us for more information, you’ll find all contact details on the bottom of this page. Click here to get to know our team.

our philosophy

At our studio old textiles are turned into unique garments with natural dyes, mended holes and repairing tears. Hul le Kes wants to show the beauty that comes from careful attention and needlework. A necessary repair can turn into a beautiful detail, with a story. It is the attention to aging and repairs, which the Japanese call Wabi-Sabi, that will give each garment a unique character. Our Recovery Studio adds value to each discarded piece of textile and makes it possible to work in a most circular way within the company.

The Hul le Kes Recovery Studio works on Hul le Kes repairs, the Dyeing Service, Mending Service, on our Gray Label x Hul le Kes collaboration, Hul le Kes ReShared collection and more.
