This garment is a tribute to Gertrude Stein, a pioneering figure in literature and the arts. Gertrude Stein (1874–1946) was an American writer, poet, and art collector who played a central role in the modernist movement. Living much of her life in Paris, she hosted a legendary salon that became a hub for artists and writers such as Picasso and Hemingway. Stein’s experimental style, as seen in Tender Buttons, broke conventions and paved the way for avant-garde literature. Hul le Kes honors her as a symbol of creative freedom and queer visibility.
