Museum Arnhem asked us to develop a Christmas gift for their (business) relations. At Hul le Kes we specialize in sustainable production and the upcycling of materials. We only use existing materials. Specially for Museum Arnhem Sjaak sourced rejected linnen art canvas. It is the material which decides what kind of garment, or product, we will start making. The heavy, sturdy canvas is perfect for a bag. Sjaak created a functional, long-lasting bag with enough volume for daily essentials. The contrasting, natural linen details are made from dead-stock fabric. Going to the local market and buying groceries has never been more fashionable and sustainable. It’s a sophisticated replacement for any plastic bag.
On the upcycled canvas splashes and stripes of gesso can be found, making each bag one-of-a-kind and unique. We like to show all these characteristics of our materials, therefore each product we make is one-of-kind and made individually in our Manufacturing studio. The upcycled bag has a clear link with the modern and contemporary art museum and the running exhibition ‘Consume by’ – an exhibition about sustainability and how people relate to the Earth.
