What makes something worth keeping? It is one of those questions that is part of our design process, and of everything we do. Being worth keeping is not necessarily about rarity or luxury. It can start with something an everyday object close to us: like a T-shirt or a pair of boxers.
With the new additions to our Collectable Series, we continue to explore how everyday garments can become objects of care and personal expression.
Fashion often teaches us to value the exceptional: the statement piece, the special occasion garment, the object we carefully store away. Meanwhile, the clothes we wear most frequently are often treated as replaceable.
We want to question that distinction.
Especially when it comes to the basics we wear every day, it matters how they are made, which materials are used and how long they can remain in use. A T-shirt or a pair of boxers may seem ordinary, but their everyday presence makes them all the more relevant when thinking about sustainability.
The latest Duchamp T-shirts in our We are de Sjaak series are made entirely from upcycled Yumeko jersey in white, blue mélange and grey mélange. Patches cut from upcycled shirts are added by hand, creating subtle differences from one piece to the next.
The Morisot Boxershorts follow a similar principle.
The Morisot Boxershorts are available as a 2-pack and 3-pack, they bring together different existing cotton textiles: navy upcycled ecological cotton bedding by Yumeko, white post-consumer cotton bedding and, in the 3-pack, a patchwork version composed of blue and white patterned shirts.
Rather than producing new fabric to match a predetermined design, we begin with what is already there. The materials help determine the outcome and become part of the statement themselves.
With the We are de Sjaak Duchamp T-shirts, that statement also becomes visible to the outside world: a call to care more for people, nature and the materials we use. An everyday garment that carries a message, precisely by being worn again and again.
