“Art is an elastic sort of love.”
–Joséphine Baker
Josephine Baker (1906 – 1975) is a great example of someone who defied racism and became the first black woman to achieve a remarkable career. Because she has been able to defy so much, she is an inspiration to our work in which we regularly have to sail against the current. Despite facing discrimination, she fought for equal rights and became an influential figure in the civil rights movement. A person who is more than worth naming a number of Hul le Kes items after.
