As every year, June is the busiest month at Hul le Kes. Not only does a new wholesale season kick off and we depart with the new collection to Florence and Paris, but there’s also a lot happening in the Hul le Kes Store and at our studios from June onwards. This year, the fashion events in Arnhem start a bit earlier than usual, from May 17th.
The Netherlands is facing a refugee crisis, leading to increasing polarization in society. In Arnhem, around 1,700 asylum seekers are being accommodated, and we initiated a project with some of them to foster more connection with Arnhem residents. Under the banner ‘A matter of taste’, we explored the connections and food memories from the home countries of (former) asylum seekers. These memories have been incorporated into a few Hul le Kes clothing pieces. During the Juni Modemaand Arnhem, you’ll find the results of this project in the Hul le Kes Store, with more content appearing in the store throughout the month.
The Hul le Kes Store is also a favorite during Juni Modemaand Arnhem. We’re also part of the State of Fashion curated by FDFA city center exhibition. At Hul le Kes, you’ll find one of the photos from four Arnhem makers who connect cultures through their clothing. On Saturday, June 1st, Hul le Kes participates in the favorite day of Juni Modemaand Arnhem. At all the retailers and eateries selected as favorites of the fashion month, there will be activities, including at the Hul le Kes Store. On Friday, June 21st, we’re once again hosting our biannual Open Studio. Starting from 2:00 PM, you’re welcome to come and see the inner workings of the Hul le Kes Recovery Studio and the Hul le Kes Manufacturing Studio. You can chat with the people who work with us (supervisors, interns, and employees in various programs). For more information and a possible voluntary contribution, visit our Open Studio page.
The exciting thing is that on that day, it’s not just our Open Studio; there are also various creative companies in the area hosting open studios. The Rijndistrict is organizing its first Open Studio route on June 21st! And of course, there’s much more to do that day as part of Juni Modemaand Arnhem. For 10 years, June has been dedicated to fashion in Arnhem, and this anniversary is being celebrated by Juni Modemaand Arnhem with a city exhibition highlighting 10 fashion and product designers. Sjaak Hullekes, co-founder, and creative director of Hul le Kes, is one of them. Find him in the city among the other designers in June to read his story!
During the Stockdays in Arnhem (July 4th to 7th), you’ll find unique pieces from our archive and old stocks at the Hul le Kes Store. When Stockdays come to Arnhem, it’s always lively. All Arnhem designers and interesting boutiques participate, opening their stockrooms for you. Additionally, at the main location (Musis), you’ll also find designers from outside the city.

In June, we’ll also present the upcoming Spring/Summer 2025 collection during Pitti in Florence (Italy) and Paris Fashion Week in France. Last season was very successful, and we hope to meet more interesting new stores this season too. Starting from the upcoming fall/winter season, Hul le Kes will be available in Japan, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, and America; hopefully in even more countries from March 2025 onwards! Apart from visiting the Hul le Kes Store or our Studios on June 21st, there’s plenty to see and experience around fashion in Arnhem from May 17th to June 30th. The international fashion biennial State of Fashion is once again descending upon the city, this time with the main location being the Rembrandt Theater and activities at Rozet and Museum Arnhem. This year’s theme, ‘Ties that bind’, explores the relationship of fashion in the global south and the connecting, and sometimes complex, ties it creates. Various international fashion designers, labels, and artists will showcase their work throughout the city.
From June 1st, Juni Modemaand kicks off, meaning even more fashion-related events. Retailers and eateries put fashion in the spotlight even more, with pop-up stores, fashion shows by ArtEZ and Rijn IJssel, the Night of Fashion, workshops, and more.
