a new chapter at Hommelstraat 27

May 15, 2025

Hul le Kes is now open – Wednesday to Saturday – in Arnhem.

Our journey has never followed the straightest road. Instead, it winds; through memories, materials, and meanings. And now, after many seasons of making and mending, we find ourselves rooted in a new place. Or perhaps not so new after all.

On Wednesday, May 14, we officially opened the doors to our new store at Hommelstraat 27 in Arnhem. It turned into a joyful afternoon filled with familiar faces, shared stories, laughter, and warm reunions. So many of our Hul le Kes family members stopped by.

Thank you for being part of this special moment. It truly felt like a homecoming! We were blessed with beautiful weather, which added even more brightness to the day. With a drink in hand, surrounded by kind conversations and genuine enthusiasm, we celebrated not just a new location, but a renewed sense of connection. It reminded us once more of what Hul le Kes truly stands for: community, creativity, and care.

a street between worlds

Some call the Hommelstraat, the street where our new store is located, part of Klarendal, others see it as part of the Spijkerkwartier. In reality, it is in Spoorhoek, a small but quietly essential district. It connects Arnhem’s inner city to the neighborhoods of Sint Marten, Klarendal and Alteveer, bridging the bustle of the centre with the calm creativity of the Modekwartier.

We can assure you a trip to our new store will be worth it. But in case Arnhem really feels, or is, too far away, no worries; our renewed webshop makes it easier than ever to browse and shop our collections from wherever you are. Thoughtfully shipped, carefully wrapped, and always with that same Hul le Kes spirit.

a bit of history

The Hommelstraat once led all the way into the historic centre of Arnhem. But during the Battle of Arnhem in World War II, nearly half the street was flattened by bombing. Today, it is a patchwork of eras, new façades beside the few survivors of a distant time.

Our building, at number 27, is one of those rare survivors. Built in 1870, it stood its ground while so many others crumbled. This house was once our home; Sjaak Hullekes and Sebastiaan Kramer lived here for years. You might recognize it from the Vogue Living editorial, or any other magazine. It now houses Hul le Kes’ new store: a home for garments, stories, and encounters.

Open to public

We are now open Wednesday through Friday from 11:00 to 18:00, and on Saturday from 11:00 to 17:00.
Not just for shopping, but for sharing, learning, and rediscovering the role of clothing in our lives.

The garments you’ll find here have stories stitched into their very seams: tales of recovery, transformation, and artistic rebellion. Come explore the pieces dyed in our studio, made from discarded textiles, or touched by hands in recovery. Come revisit the spirit of an old house that is once again full of life.
