“What matters is the truth. However raw, however brutal.”
–Charley Toorop
This garment pays tribute to Charley Toorop (1891–1955), a bold and uncompromising painter who played a vital role in twentieth-century Dutch art. She developed a raw, expressive style focused on self-portraits, workers, and everyday life. As a key figure in the Bergen School and a woman in a male-dominated art world, Toorop asserted her vision with striking intensity. Her dedication to honesty and strength reflects the values of Hul le Kes.
