Some fashion is not meant to rush. It is fashion that emerges slowly, stitched in silence and shaped with full attention to sustainability and ethics, in full peace. We highly admire a rhythm of waiting, a rhythm that opposes urgency and embraces process.
To enjoy the ease it is important to stop, and look back, at times. The past month we have been surrounded by many Hul le Kes enthusiasts. It has been our very first full month at the new Hul le Kes Store at Hommelstraat 27 in Arnhem. The positive energy was palpable. We welcomed many of you during the Open Studio and the Arnhemse Stock and Design Dagen. It was a beautiful reminder of what happens when community, time and craft come together.
Meanwhile new pieces for our Autumn/Winter deliveries are taking shape. A collection with more upcycled garments than ever before. Threads chosen with care and fabrics repurposed with intent, within our Recovery Studio and Manufacturing Studio in Arnhem. You will start to see the first arrivals of this new collection trickle into our store. Each garment is a testament to time well spent. By the end of September we will supply our retailers with new Hul le Kes garments.
Waiting also allows space for something deeply personal. Alongside our read-to-wear collections, we continue to offer made-to-order creations. Whether it’s a Cremer Jacket, upcycled from a blanket filled with memories, a Rodin Patchwork Shirt made from shirts of a loved one, or even a wedding dress… These kind of bespoke pieces carry extra meaning, tailored not just in fit but also in story. Feel free to reach out to us by email; we’d be honoured to co-create something truly yours.
If you’ve been eyeing a particular piece from a past collection, or waiting for new garments, make sure to check out our webshop every now and then. At the moment there are still a few discounted items available in our webshop. Sometimes, waiting rewards you with just the right opportunity. In case you are looking for one of the new arrivals, you have to wait just about two weeks; then new garments will be online available again. Always made in a low quantity, and always made at our own studios in Arnhem, the Netherlands.
If you’re passing through Arnhem this summer, we warmly invite you to visit our store. To see, to feel, and to try. And while you’re here, make sure to cross the city centre to visit Museum Arnhem. At the museum for modern art, our co-founder Sebastiaan Kramer just opened Waardevol, an exhibition of works by Dutch artist Ted Noten. A bold and reflective show, echoing values we share with Ted Noten, about materials, people, professions and more.
So yes, summer is a season of waiting. A deeply valued kind of waiting, one in which we discover. We connect, and make meaning. We hope that this summer, you too will find moments of rest. Whether you’re travelling far or staying close to home, may your holiday be a time to slow down, to reflect, and to simply be. We look forward to welcoming you, at our store, in our studios, or through the garments we make with care; for you.
