Hul le Kes
Matisse Jacket Dyed
The linen Hul le Kes Matisse is a versatile jacket for most seasons. Underneath a coat in winter, on top of a shirt in summer. We’ve also made a few in a cotton and silk fabric which are lighter and thinner. Inspired by French workers’ jackets. Our Matisse is handmade by upcycling antique French linens. Some of these linens are a hundred years old. Working this way we extend the lifecycle of old fabrics. The result is a timeless design.
We hand-dyed this piece with chestnuts and gallnuts. It comes with its own Hul le Kes passport and registration number.
This item is dyed naturally. In keeping its unique dyes, you will need to hand-wash. We’re against the industry’s use of heavy chemical dyes, which damage the planet and people that come in contact with them. Dyeing naturally means that eventually colours will fade. As a solution we started the Hul le Kes dyeing service, which re-dyes items.
"Impressionism is the newspaper of the soul"
Apart from being a tremendously talented painter, Henri Matisse (1869 – 1954) was a skilled draughtsman, printmaker and sculptor. Together with André Derain he led the Fauvist art movement. Matisse’s vibrant use of colour was influenced by the works of Vincent van Gogh. Because of the energy seen in his works, we gave his name to this jacket.
At Hul le Kes we do not focus on a particular gender. Therefore we work with our own size chart. Our sizes range from 1 to 4. When a garment is a one size fits all, it’s sized as A.
The Matisse Jacket comes in a size 1, 2 or 3.
