Fashion magazines and fashion journalism deliver more than just clothes, they represent the variety and creativity of fashion but also the selected point of view of contemporary society. As philosopher Roland Barthes suggested, fashion journalism has shaped andperhaps even created the concept of fashion and its symbolic value.Through time, fashion functions as guidance, leading people to elevate themselves to achieve an ‘ideal appearance.’ And with the rise of neoliberalism and the centralising of individuals, nowadays, fashion journalism and fashion brands seem to be focusing more on people’s ‘inner-selves.’
Changing the current fashion system is an ongoing process that involves continuous learning and unlearning. Constantly adjusting how things operate and thinking carefully about the matter of inclusiveness. Our intern Wei Chi Su wrote a first Hul le Kes blog about the changing fashion industry.
