Recovering and healing

As a loyal follower of Hul le Kes you have already been noticing our developments around the Recovery Studio. In the last couple of months we have been busy setting up all necessary arrangements to bring this new part of our company alife. The Hul le Kes Recovery Studio is a place to heal both people and textiles. Together with many partners we are able to start this new project to get products and people back into our society.

When we started our collaboration with ReShare (Dutch Salvation Army) we tried to seek opportunities to get rejected clothing back into society. Because so many garments with even just a little stain could not be sold again. That is why we collected trash from restaurants to start using that trash to dye thrown away garments and get them back into society again. Now we take this idea to a whole new level. Not only garments with spots and stains will be brought back into society. From now on garments with wear and holes and even people with depressions, burn-outs and other mental issues are to be brought back into society with the Hul le Kes Recovery Studio.

Start recovering

In the last months we have been busy deepening our network to make the Hul le Kes Recovery Studio possible. In our current manufacturing studio we already have strong connections with education and experience to work with people with a distance from the labor market. Sjaak himself has been educated as a social worker even before he became a fashion designer. For the Hul le Kes Recovery Studio we work together with the recycling companies ReShared and 2Switch. We will start our collaboration with Driestroom and continue ours with Scalabor. And thanks to the financial support of Rabobank Foundation, Stichting DOEN and the city of Arnhem we are able to really make this all possible.

Projects

As from within the Hul le Kes Recovery Studio we are also working on special projects and collaborations. Like our collaboration with Gray Label, where we mend and dye there pre-loved Rented garments for babies. (a new part of our collaboration with Gray Label will be launched on July 15! Keep a close eye on our socials!). Another project we are now working on is together with the graphic design studio De Vormforensen. It is a project about mourning. Together with De Vormforensen we started doing research on ways to show grief via a subtitle, or less subtle, statement on a garment. While mending one will be learning to deal with his/her grief, and at the same time be able to share that same grief with others. To find out more about the start of the project, have a look at the video below (in Dutch only):
